Custom cargo pants are built from four decisions: fabric and weight, construction and trims, decoration, and the private label pack. Each one changes cost, lead time and how the finished piece reads.
Fabric. The options we run most are heavier twill for structure and pocket support; canvas for the most rugged workwear look; ripstop for tear resistance at a lighter weight. For cargo pants the practical weight reference is cotton twill 280–380 GSM, with 300–380 GSM the recommended range and 340 GSM and above preventing the pocket sag that lighter cargo develops. Ordering by weight figure alone is not enough — two fabrics can both be called the same weight and still behave differently in wash, drape and color retention, so composition and shrinkage are confirmed by wash testing.
Construction and trims. The build includes zip flies with YKK or equivalent zippers, or button flies with metal shanks; belt loops specified by width and spacing, since they carry most of the load; bartacks and reinforcement tape at stress points, plus a crotch gusset for heavy-duty programs.
Decoration. Available routes include embroidery, screen print, patches, tonal branding, custom hardware. Decoration is approved on the actual fabric rather than on a test swatch, because stretch, pile, coating and heat sensitivity all change the result.
Private label pack. Woven neck labels, size and care labels, logo tags, hangtags, barcoded polybags and printed cartons. A garment can leave the sewing line finished and still not be retail-ready, and this layer is what closes that gap.
A note specific to this category: Cargo pants are judged by what happens when the pockets are loaded. A 280 GSM twill that looks correct on a flat sample will sag at the cargo pocket once worn, while the same pattern in 380 GSM twill holds its line — which is why fabric weight is locked before fit approval.
