Varsity jacket and letterman jacket are often used in similar ways, but the terms can have slightly different meanings depending on the market. In custom manufacturing, both usually refer to jackets with a contrast body and sleeves, rib collar, rib cuffs, snap buttons, and custom patches or embroidery.
A letterman jacket is often associated with school, team, award, or college-style details. A varsity jacket can be broader and may include streetwear, fashion, private label, or modern brand interpretations.
For production, the key details are more important than the naming. Brands should confirm body fabric, sleeve material, rib design, snap buttons, lining, patch technique, embroidery, color blocking, fit, and packaging.
If a brand wants a classic school-inspired style, it may use wool body, leather or PU sleeves, chenille patches, and striped ribs. If the brand wants a streetwear version, it may choose satin, nylon, fleece, denim, or custom color blocking.
Before sampling, the buyer should provide reference images, artwork files, size chart, color standards, and material preferences.
